Welcome to Heather's T.R.E.E., focusing on Training, Resources, Education and Empowerment regarding domestic violence and how to help yourself or a loved one who finds themselves in this type situation.
This site is lovingly dedicated to the memory of Mary Heather Spencer; daughter, grand-daughter, sister, cousin, aunt, niece and friend, who was murdered by her boyfriend on 9/11/07. It's true, the older you get, the faster time flies. I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer so far and enjoying every good thing this world has to offer! I can't believe 2010 is already half over! A friend gave me a key chain last year that says, "Whenever a door closes, God opens a window".
This year I have lived that quote. My husband and I have been blessed with a son, a new baby boy named Memphis. I had him on April 29th and he is bringing us so much joy. He is almost 3 months old now. Heather has a little brother she will never know on this earth but we hope she will meet him one day in Heaven. My Mom told me she was proud of me for being able to bring another life into this world to love after so much heartache from losing Heather. It took me quite a while to figure out if I could handle it. I am sometimes over protective of him but he is our little miracle and I know Heather is keeping a watchful eye over him. While a piece of my heart will always be missing, it is full of love for this new little life and I pray that he will grow up to be a kind, considerate, loving and compassionate individual. And I will do everything in my power to make sure he does.
Wednesday, March 10th would have been Heather's 31st birthday. I wonder how her life would have progressed to this point. I remember the day she was born and how happy I was. The doctor who delivered her said she was the prettiest baby he had ever delivered and I was so proud. Of course she grew up to be a beautiful young woman, not only on the outside but on the inside as well. She had so much to give and so much to live for. There is not a day or a minute that goes by that I do not think of her and miss her.
We all, her family and friends, continue to go on with our lives as best we can but for most of us, there will always be a void, unable to be filled. We still search for answers and reasons that this tragedy had to happen and try to find comfort.
A friend of mine gave me this poem soon after Heather died and its meaning gives me hope and reassurance that one day I will have all the answers and be re-united with her in a much better place.
Thank you all for your continued love and support and God Bless You. ~LHF
The Weaver's Poem
My life is but a weaving
Between my Lord and me.
I cannot choose the colors
But He weaves on steadily.
Oft' times He weaves in sorrow
And I in foolish pride
Forget he sees the upper
And I the under side.
Not until the loom is silent
And the shuttles cease to fly,
Shall God unroll the canvas
And reveal the reasons why.
For the dark threads are as needful
In the skillful Weaver's hand,
As the threads of gold and silver
In the pattern He has planned.

Where to start? The past year has flown by and it’s hard to believe we just completed the 2nd Annual Heather Spencer Memorial Concert. It was a challenging year, not only for me personally as I still struggle daily to make sense of losing my daughter, but the entire country has been devastated by the economy, lost jobs, housing foreclosures, war and bail outs. As a committee, we didn’t quite know what to expect for our second benefit. Would people come? Would we get enough auction items donated? Would we raise enough money again this year to help other women in need?
Thursday, November 5th, 2009, Heather’s T.R.E.E. made a $12,000 donation to the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence at their annual leadership conference to establish the Heather's Hope Grant Program.

Please mark your calendars now for the 2nd Annual Heather Spencer `Soulshine' Memorial Concert on October 17th, at Hal & Mal's in Jackson, MS! Last year we raised $10,000 for the Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence (mcadv.org) with your help! The event is scheduled to run from 7pm - 12 Midnight (or later!) and will once again feature delectable food from local area restaurants, a silent auction, t-shirts for sale and a fantastic line-up of local and national musicians! This year's musical line-up includes The Patrick Harkins Band, Shadz of Gray, Brad Biard, Dave Gatlin, Passenger Jones, Georgia Thomas and California band Rally for One!
We are also asking for silent auction donations of any kind. Last year's items ranged from paintings, to trips, to restaurant certificates to designer sunglasses, jewelry, sports memorabilia and much more! If you would like to donate an item, you can contact lindaf@heatherstree.org and we will make sure we get it in the auction! Your generosity is greatly appreciated!
There's sure to be something for everyone at this year's event and we ask that you make your plans now to attend as we strive to end domestic violence, not only in Mississippi, but all over the country and join us as we remember our beloved Mary Heather whose love of life, music, friends and family made her a joy to know and love and she is missed still today, two years later, as our hearts ache that she is no longer with us."
See you on October 17th!
Let your soul shine,
Linda
